10 Ways to Relieve Your Back Discomfort
Doesn’t it often seem like back discomfort comes out of nowhere? It can be triggered by an everyday event, like lifting the orange juice bottle out of the fridge or even retrieving your golf ball after a spectacular birdie putt. All at once you can be experiencing both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Or maybe you just wake up and your lower back is much stiffer than the night before.
However it may happen, you’re not alone—back discomfort is one of the most common complaints I hear from people as they age. According to the American Chiropractic Association, 31 million Americans complain about low back aches at any given time, and 80 percent of Americans will experience back discomfort at some point in their lives—that’s a huge number.
And it’s not their fault. The problem is the way the human back is designed. It’s a complex arrangement of bone, ligaments, joints, muscles, and nerves. And standing, sitting, or even laying down can put stress on any of these components. The good news is there is plenty you can do to help.
